The Italian renaissance-style Château de Ferrières was built between 1855 and 1859 under the aegis of Baron James de Rothschild, in order to exhibit invaluable collections of works of art and to serve as the setting for sumptuous feasts.
It is surrounded by 125-hectare grounds regarded as one of France's finest English-style gardens, where rare species of plant, lawns and water features coexist in perfect harmony.
It is now the home for the "Museum of Imagination". Created under the impetus of collectors and patrons, this fine achievement receives little media coverage. And therein lies the interest of this museum, which aims to promote the art form known to the media as "Fantasy Art Works". Each room is allocated to an individual artist, providing an opportunity for their work to be displayed for a few months before being transferred to the commercial circuit of galleries and exhibitions.
This museum has been created courtesy of the cooperation of the Chancellery of the Universities of Paris within the framework of the 'Marie-Hélène and Guy de Rothschild Foundation'.
