|Geocache GCMM7V 'Forgotten runway' (close to the new Frankfurt Airport):|
In January 2005 the remains of an old runway of Frankfurt Airport were found in the woods. The runway was built from August till December 1944 by Jewish women from Hungary who were imprisoned in an outpost of the concentration camp Natzweiler-Struthof.
So far, it had only been known that the regular runway of Frankfurt Airport was built by forced labour during World War II, but there is evidence that three runways were built altogether.
During air raids of the allied air forces the German war birds were hidden close to the additional two runways so that they could take off after the attack was over.
