The most popular training place in Japan is the Toda Olympic Rowing Course near Tokyo. The 2,000 metre man-made course was built for the cancelled 1940 Olympic Games, but then renovated for the 1964 Tokyo Olympics.
About 30 university, company and public boat houses currently use the facility which also has the Arakawa River running alongside for longer rows.
