Teide (Mount Teide or Pico de Teide) is a volcano and mountain on Tenerife, Canary Islands (28.27 N, 16.6 W). At 3717 m above sea level and approximately 7000m above the adjacent sea bed, it is the highest mountain in Spain, and the third largest volcano on Earth.

Two Boeing 747s (PanAm and KLM) collided in thick fog on the runway after an unauthorized takeoff by the KLM jet. At this largest aircraft crash in the aerial history (except the attacks on the 11th September), a total of 583 people died.
On October 22, 2005, the Sierra Negra Volcano on Isla Isabela in the Galapagos Islands began erupting, sending ash as high as 12,800 meters (42,000 feet), according to the U.S. Geological Survey.
