|This is the wreck of a Norwegian Barque the SS Nornen, which was driven in a raging gale on to the beach in 1897. The ship's crew of ten, together with their dog, were taken off by the lifeboat and landed safely at Burnham. Work on breaking up the wreck began under the supervision of the British authorities. All valuable metals and the gunhouses and turrets were removed before the bare torso of the ship was abandoned where she lay.
