The Fujimiya Factory maintains about 100,000 m2 of greenery in the neighboring area of the factory, where employee apartment buildings and dormitories are located. Some of these spots are open to the public and used as athletic fields, tennis courts, golf ranges and other recreational facilities by the local community.
Opened in 1879 the Cadbury chocolate factory in Bournville was one of the first to provided its workers with housing, education and training, pension schemes and medical facilities. As well as the factory the site now houses the "Cadbury World" exhibition.

Later photographic cover showed little or no damage to the factory, A local report says that 38 houses were destroyed and 49 damaged, with 34 French people being killed and 167 injured.
