	Katoomba, Blue Mountains, Australia Katoomba, in the Blue Mountains, is about 85kms (about 52 miles) west of Sydney at an altitude of 950m (about 3,117ft). It is a major tourist attraction with its shear sandstone cliffs. The name Blue Mountains was given because of the blue haze when seen from the distance.
