Shortest Commercial Airport Runway

Shortest Commercial Airport Runway

Juancho E. Yrausquin is the only airport on the Caribbean island of Saba, in the Netherlands Antilles. It is well known among experienced fliers for the way in which airplanes must approach or take off from the airport. The runway at Saba's airport is just 400 meters (1,312 feet) long that leaves no room for any mistake when one lands there, as at each end of the runway there is a sheer drop in...

Gibraltar Airport with 4 lane road through the runway

Gibraltar Airport with 4 lane road through the runway

Here's a look at the strangest airport I've ever seen. The airport is built on a small peninsula going perpendicular so it is built out over the water. In order to get past the airport, cars have to drive over the main strip of the runway. There looks to be railroad crossing style drop-down gates at each end of the crossing road.

You can see more close-ups of the road/runway at h...

Camo Plane Landing or Taking Off

Camo Plane Landing or Taking Off

A camouflaged plane landing at the Beijing Capital airport. The plane seems to be taking off because
A. If you look at the runway to the east, ~8 planes are waiting for takeoff. Therefore, that runway must be the takeoff runway, designating the other (this one) as the landing runway.

But, a counterargument:
A. This is a long runway and a small plane, so shouldn't...

Kai Tak International Airport (Old Airport Hong Kong)

Less than 10 km to the north and northeast was a range of hills reaching an altitude of 2000 ft. To the east of the runway, the hills were less than 5 km away. Immediately to the south of the airport was the Victoria Harbour, and further south was Hong Kong Island with hills u...

US Military Transports at Frankfurt

US Military Transports at Frankfurt

New high res imagery for Frankfurt Airport show many large transport aircraft on the southern military hardstandings. Two C17s and 12 C5s I think. A further C5 is tucked away on an eastern dispersal.
