US 40th Photo Recon Squadron took this post-raid shot. The roundhouse, which had survived repeated bombing up to that point, was never the same. Only about half of the roundhouse was rebuilt.

12 Bostons bombed railway yards at Hazebrouck without loss. 1 of the Bostons was manned by Captain Kegelman and his all-American crew, the first Americans of the Eighth Air Force to take part in a bomber operation. Their hosts were 226 Squadron at Swanton Morley.

224 aircraft - 184 Lancasters, 30 Stirlings, 10 Mosquitos - of Nos 3 and 8 Groups attacked railway yards at Lens and Valenciennes. The raids took place in clear visibility and both targets were accurately bombed. 6 Lancasters were lost from the Lens raid and 5 Lancasters from Valenciennes.

Single Person Air-raid shelter Hamont

The single person air raid schelter made of concrete and steel was built during the Second World War. It provided a shelter for railway signalmen during airplane attacks on the yard.
There were several of these structures spread over the area.
The station Hamont is the frontier of the railway Antwerp-Mol-Hamont-Mönchengladbach in the German Ruhr.
