Off the central Queensland coast between Rockhampton and Gladstone lies Curtis Island. The north-eastern end of this large island is Curtis Island National Park.
A variety of vegetation types grows in the park from heath, grassland, stunted paperbark woodland and open eucalypt forest to extensive patches of dry rainforest.

The dam has been built across the Brisbane River about 80 kilometres by road from the centre of Brisbane. The dam is also designed to prevent flooding of the capital city of Queensland.
Along the coast of the North Sea, the Germans built several radar stations. On the island of Schiermonnikoog they built a radar installation of the Wassermann type. According to some sources, sabotage was the cause that an antenna was never installed, and therefore this Wasserman was never put into use.
