The only Non level vertical lift in the world. Bridge spans NY barge canal on Main St. Fairport, New York. This per my Uncle circa 1962, and it does go uphill.

The Anderton Boat Lift

The Anderton Boat Lift near the village of Anderton, Cheshire, in north-west England provides a 50 feet (15.2 m) vertical link between two navigable waterways: the River Weaver and the Trent and Mersey Canal.

Built in 1875, the boat lift was in use for over 100 years until it was closed due to corrosion in 1983. Restoration started in 2001 and the boat lift was re-opened in 2002....

Aerial image of the Pegasus Bridge area of Normandy taken on 6th June 1944. This was the scene of the first British landing on D-Day, when men of the 6Th Airborne Division used gliders (which can be clearly seen in the image) to land behind enemy lines and secure the bridge over the Caen Canal. This was later re-named 'Pegasus' bridge, in honour of the badge worn by the 6th Airborne.

The Strépy-Thieu boat lift (French: L'ascenseur funiculaire de Strépy-Thieu) lies on a branch of the Canal du Centre in the municipality of Le Rœulx, Hainaut, Belgium. With a height difference of 73.15 metres (240.0 ft) between the upstream and downstream reaches, it is the tallest boat lift in the world, and will remain so until the Three Gorges dam boat lift in China is finished.

The left of the two bridges in the north of the pic is a railroad-bridge crossing the River Mosel, the right one is the Balduin bridge, the one of the oldest river-crossing-site of Koblenz.

The Bridge crossing the Bow River in Calgary, Alberta. It was originally called the MacArthur Bridge, but it was destroyed in a flood in 1915. In 2000, the bridge was restored and renovated. The bridge features four lions atop the sides of the bridge.
