U.S. Eight Air Force Liberators blasted the Zahnradfabrik Works during Saturdays's 18 March 44 operations. The Zahnradfabrik A.G. Works, one of the largest gear cutting factories in the world is left burning with half of the west end of the plant hit by incendiaries and high explosives. As the Liberators headed for home, huge columns of smoke surge up from the Friedrichshafen area.

The Lockheed U-2, nicknamed Dragon Lady, is a single-engine, high-altitude aircraft flown by the United States Air Force. It provides day and night, high-altitude (70,000 ft, 21,000 m plus), all-weather surveillance. The aircraft is also used for electronic sensor research and development, satellite calibration, and satellite data validation.
An Aeroflot Il-14 from the the Soviet Union that crashed in Molodyozhnaya, Antarctica on January 2, 1979. The engine experienced engine failure shortly after takeoff, killing four of the seven people on board.
