US 40th Photo Recon Squadron took this post-raid shot. The roundhouse, which had survived repeated bombing up to that point, was never the same. Only about half of the roundhouse was rebuilt.

Solingen bomb raid, 5 November 1944

173 Lancasters of No 3 Group carried out a G-H raid on Solingen. 1 Lancaster lost. Results of the raid were not observed, because of the complete cloud cover, but German reports show that this was an outstanding success. Most of the bombing fell accurately into the medium-sized town of Solingen. 1,300 houses and 18 industrial buildings were destroyed and 1,600 more buildings were severely damaged.

Part of a vertical photographic-reconnaissance aerial taken over Munich, Germany after the raid by aircraft of Nos. 1 and 5 Groups, Bomber Command, on the night of 24/25 April 1944, showing the building complex of the Residenz, gutted by incendiary fire. Damage has also been caused to the Feldherrnhalle fronting onto Odeonsplatz (lower right), which was an important Nazi Party 'shrine'.

340th BG (M), Mission, Sofia Marshalling Yard

14 November 1943

The first air raid of the Bulgarian capital was carried out on 14 November 1943 by 91 B-25 Mitchell bombers. 47 buildings and structures were destroyed, 59 civilians and military men were killed and over 128 were injured.

378 Lancasters and 7 Mosquitos of Nos 1, 5 and 8 Groups attacked railway targets at Culmont, Revigny and Tours. Culmont and Tours were accurately bombed but cloud interfered with the all-No 1 Group raid at Revigny and only half of the force bombed. 10 Lancasters were lost on the Revigny raid and 2 on the Culmont raid.

A recon photo of the German city of Düren taken as part of sortie 33/2032 of December 16, 1944, flown by Captain T. A. Roberts of the 33rd Photo Recon Squadron. Located on the east bank of the Roer River, the city was a center of fierce fighting during the Battle of the Bulge, which began on the day this photo was taken.

128 Lancasters of No 3 Group to the new target of Koblenz, making a night G-H attack. 2 Lancasters lost. This was a successful raid with most of the damage being caused by a large area of fire in the centre of the town. The British Bombing Survey Unit later estimated that 303 acres, 58 per cent of the town's built-up area, were destroyed.
