Stones of Jelling, Denmarks sign of Christianisation

The two runic stones outside Jelling church was created around the year 955 and 965. On the front of the big stone from around 965 it shows the cruzified Christ with a viking dragon artwork around it.
The stone was raised by the danish King Harold Bluetooth and has a script in that times nordic language that says:

The Cathedral with its three aisles was built in the centre of Maribo town by Denmark`s first female head of state, Queen Margrethe in 1353-1412, who founded Brigittine Abbey Church which was for both nuns and monks.

Brigittine Church was a double abbey church estimated to accommodate 60 nons and 25 monks (including 12 priests) under the general confessor.

Ledoje two storeyed church

The church of Ledoje is the only one of this kind in Denmark. It's in two storeys. On the lower storey the normal people were and the squire and family from a manor that once was next to the tower attended the service.

The church is from around 1225, the tower around 1500.

Church at cliff

The old Hojerup Church was build of chalk stones from the cliff in 1250 to 1300 and was far away from the cliff. Because of erosion during time the church came closer to the cliff and 1928 the chansel and parts of the church yard fell down. But the church was allready closed in 1910.
Today the church is secured and open to public with a great view over the Baltic Sea.

Nordby is one of the biggest villages in Denmark. It also has the biggest pond in the center ov the village.

The church is located 1 mile southwest of Nordby. It was difficult to hear the bells ringing so 1867 a bell tower was build in the center of the village to inform the people to go to church.
