This air raid shelter (in German: Hochbunker) was built between 1942 and 1943. It offered protection during bombardments. The bunker is 25 meters high. The outer walls has a thickness of 1,10 meter. During the siege of Breslau (now: Wroclaw) in 1945, the air raid shelter served as Festunglazaret II.

US 40th Photo Recon Squadron took this post-raid shot. The roundhouse, which had survived repeated bombing up to that point, was never the same. Only about half of the roundhouse was rebuilt.

Opladen: 328 aircraft - 227 Halifaxes, 66 Lancasters, 35 Mosquitos. 2 Lancasters lost. 9 of the Mosquitos bombed 3½ hours before the main raid. The aiming point for the attack was the marshalling yards but results are not known.
