Oosterschelde Barrier

Oosterschelde Barrier

In 1953, Zeeland was devastated by a flood disaster even worse than the one in New Orleans.
After this disaster, the Netherlands closed almost all the sea-openings, to protect the lowlands.
The Oosterscheldebarrier is a 9km (5.6-mile) hydraulic wall with sluice-gate doors that are normally left open to protect the area's delicate tidal habitat.

Hillsborough Stadium

Here is where Sheffield Wednesday FC play football in my home town of Sheffield, UK. This is where the incredibly saddening 'Hillsborough Disaster' happened on April 15th, 1989 that resulted in the loss of 96 lives. The match was an FA Cup Semi Final between Liverpool and Nottignham Forest FC's. Personally, this disaster is one of those times that indelibly marks itself as knowing exactly where...
