destroyed by a missile in 1983, during the Second Sudanese Civil War, this gigantic bucket wheel excavator, actually disused, digged the Jonglei Canal to divert water through the vast Sudd wetlands of South Sudan so as to deliver more water downstream to Sudan and Egypt for use in agriculture.

Vertical aerial reconnaissance view of Castelvetrano airfield, Sicily, the day before a successful attack was made on it by Malta-based Bristol Blenheims of Nos. 18 and 107 Squadrons RAF. A number of Junkers Ju 52 and Savoia Marchetti SM 82 transport aircraft, many of which were destroyed during the raid, can be seen parked around the airfield perimeter.
This photo was taken from the camera pit in Thunderbird on March 28, 1944. The target was an airfield at Dijon, France. Bomb strikes can be seen in one area of buildings. A following group of fortresses wiped out the next group of buildings, while a third group demolished the third group of buildings. The airfield was completely destroyed.
