The authorities had to put steel pla...

Built in 1961, the Runcorn Bridge is a bridge of steel construction which crosses the River Mersey linking the towns of Runcorn and Widnes. It is the longest bridge of its type in the United Kingdom. The bridge is the first (road) crossing of the Mersey after the two toll tunnels at Liverpool.
Dingmans Bridge, located in Dingmans Ferry, PA. This is the last privately owned bridge on the Delaware River. The bridge is quite old and has wood plank flooring that rattles when driven on. A person stands in the road, on the PA side and collects a 50 cent toll for each direction.
The target for this mission was a pinpoint target in the Alps Mountains. A railroad bridge and viaduct at Orelle, Italy. The Group maintained its poor record against bridges by missing the target because of the failure of the formation leaders to properly identify the target.
These are photos of Group Mission #174 to Cologne, Germany on Jan 14th, 1945. The Allies were just breaking out of the battle of the bulge and pushing the Germany army back to Germany. This tactical mission was to destroy a bridge across the Rhine to prevent supplies from arriving and troops from fleeing. Bombing results were excellent.
