The target for this mission was a pinpoint target in the Alps Mountains. A railroad bridge and viaduct at Orelle, Italy. The Group maintained its poor record against bridges by missing the target because of the failure of the formation leaders to properly identify the target.
These are photos of Group Mission #174 to Cologne, Germany on Jan 14th, 1945. The Allies were just breaking out of the battle of the bulge and pushing the Germany army back to Germany. This tactical mission was to destroy a bridge across the Rhine to prevent supplies from arriving and troops from fleeing. Bombing results were excellent.
