UFO-runway for extraterrestrial cultures

UFO-runway for extraterrestrial cultures

World's first runway for extraterrestrial cultures.

The two roundabouts connecting the municipality Houten with the A27 highway and their connecting road have been transformed into a runway for extraterrestrial cultures. The one roundabout is a UFO landing platform, a lighted smooth tar plate decorated with a giant letter U. On the other roundabout a control tower, which signals ...

Shortest Commercial Airport Runway

Shortest Commercial Airport Runway

Juancho E. Yrausquin is the only airport on the Caribbean island of Saba, in the Netherlands Antilles. It is well known among experienced fliers for the way in which airplanes must approach or take off from the airport. The runway at Saba's airport is just 400 meters (1,312 feet) long that leaves no room for any mistake when one lands there, as at each end of the runway there is a sheer drop in...

Mexico City International Airport, Mexico

Mexico City International Airport, Mexico

Officially called Benito Juarez International Airport is located 13km east of the capital's center.

Strange picture: The western end of the runway is in a low-resolution area, the high-res part is covered in smoke (or smog?). There are lots of passenger planes parked and taxiing.
Note the old extension of the runway to the east, which is now crossed by 3 roads.

Gibraltar Airport with 4 lane road through the runway

Gibraltar Airport with 4 lane road through the runway

Here's a look at the strangest airport I've ever seen. The airport is built on a small peninsula going perpendicular so it is built out over the water. In order to get past the airport, cars have to drive over the main strip of the runway. There looks to be railroad crossing style drop-down gates at each end of the crossing road.

You can see more close-ups of the road/runway at h...

Geocache GCMM7V 'Forgotten runway' (close to the new Frankfurt Airport):

In January 2005 the remains of an old runway of Frankfurt Airport were found in the woods. The runway was built from August till December 1944 by Jewish women from Hungary who were imprisoned in an outpost of the concentration camp Natzweiler-Struthof.
So far, it had only been known that the regular r...

Forton Services Station, M6

Forton Services Station, M6

Very distinctive from the road- features a round tower that resembles a Air Traffic Control Tower, which originally was a restaurant, currently in use as offices. The tower is called The Pennine Tower. An employee of Forton said that the Pennine Tower closed after complaints that it looked like an UFO when lit up at night and was distracting- (Sounds like an urban myth, but its a great tale, It...

Kai Tak International Airport (Old Airport Hong Kong)

Kai Tak International Airport (Old Airport Hong Kong)

Kai Tak was located in the north of Kowloon Bay in Kowloon, Hong Kong. The vicinity was surrounded by rugged mountains. Less than 10 km to the north and northeast was a range of hills reaching an altitude of 2000 ft. To the east of the runway, the hills were less than 5 km away. Immediately to the south of the airport was the Victoria Harbour, and further south was Hong Kong Island with hills u...

Dom of Utrecht Netherlands

Dom of Utrecht Netherlands

The Dom Tower of Utrecht is the tallest church tower in the Netherlands, at 112 metres in height.

The tower was part of the medieval cathedral of Utrecht and was built between 1321 and 1382. The building was hastily completed due to lack of money and so lacked the flying buttresses to support its walls. In 1674 a hurricane destroyed a large part of the middle section of Dom Churc...
