USAAF raid against the Gear Factory Friedrichshafen

U.S. Eight Air Force Liberators blasted the Zahnradfabrik Works during Saturdays's 18 March 44 operations. The Zahnradfabrik A.G. Works, one of the largest gear cutting factories in the world is left burning with half of the west end of the plant hit by incendiaries and high explosives. As the Liberators headed for home, huge columns of smoke surge up from the Friedrichshafen area.

Graf Zeppelin was a German aircraft carrier of the Kriegsmarine, named like the famous airship in honour of Graf (Count) Ferdinand von Zeppelin. It was Germany's only aircraft carrier during World War II. Its construction was ordered on November 16, 1935, and its keel was laid down December 28, 1936 by Deutsche Werke of Kiel. It was launched on December 8, 1938, but was never completed.
