Bergen-Belsen, (or Belsen) was a Nazi concentration camp in Lower Saxony, southwest of the town of Bergen near Celle. Between 1943 and 1945 an estimated 50,000 European civilians died there. A memorial and an exhibition centre exist on the site now.

Hakons Hall was erected during the reign of King Hakon Hakonsson between 1247-1261. It was the largest and most imposing building of the royal residency in the 13th century when Bergen was the political center of Norway.
Rosenkrantz Tower was erected in the 1560’s by the governor of Bergen Castle, Erik Rosenkrantz, and served as a combined residence and fortified tower. Earlier structures existed and was incorporated by Erik Rosenkrantz.
