WWII practice target ranges (the small square/rectangular clearings). These ranges were used by Thunderbolts from the Millville Army Airfield in Millville NJ, nearby. Millville Army Airfield was America's first defense field and is home to a very nice aviation museum, dedicated to the field.

Luke was the largest fighter training base is the country for half a century. 50 years ago before this area was populated, Luke used these fields to practice emergency landings and such. Col. Shower led the squadron of nineteen aircraft that took off at 1010 carrying 120 x 500lb GPs and 612 x 100lb GPs. The bombing was visual with good results, the field and runways hit.
