While the JMSDF describes the Osumi class as tank landing ships, they lack the bow doors and beaching capability traditionally associated with LSTs. German World War Two UBOAT, U534 on the dockside. The German type IXC/40 submarine was sunk by Allied forces in 1945.

M.K.B. Zanddijk consisted of two ammunitionbunkers, a M 120 (Leitstand für eine 17 cm Batterie) and two M 219 (Stand für 15 cm SKC/28 in Drehhaube C/34).
