A massive storage reservoir, Lake Argyle formed where the Ord River enters the Carr-Boyd Ranges 160 kilometres southeast of Wyndham. Lake Argyle is now the largest fresh water storage in mainland Australia. Its storage capacity is 10,760 million cubic metres of water or about 9 times the water volume of Sydney Harbour.
This is the worlds largest open-cast coal mine, the long thin face is about 6 x 1/4 miles and the W shaped face is about 3 x 2 miles. To the north you can find GRES-2, a very large Coal burning powerplant and to the east of this mine you can see an incredibly long canal flowing south-east.
