This is the area near Kitty Hawk (it was the closest Post Office at the time) where Oliver and Wilbur Wright flew their planes. The straight line north has markers showing the length of their flights, the hill south is a memorial to the flight and right next door is appropriately an airport.

Whitehawk is overlooked by the White Hawk, a chalk carving in the hill at Sheepcote Valley. The White Hawk was carved in 2001 by local artists Same Sky with support from the Friends of Sheepcote Valley and Whitehawk residents.
