Point du Hoc Battery, Normandy - May 1944

Overhead aerial of the gun battery at Pointe du Hoc, consisting of four medium casemates, after air bombardment. The battery was captured by a detachment of the 2nd Ranger Battalionn, 1st US Division, on 6 June 1944, who held it against numerous counter-attacks until relieved the following day. The casemates were found to contain dummy guns.

Yap runway (Caroline Island Group) was target on 22 June 1944 for Consolidated B-24 Liberators of 13th Air Task Force, which bombed and destroyed 16 Japanese planes set five fuel trucks afire, and completed the roundtrip of about 2,100 miles with no looses.

Hvidsten group (Danish: Hvidstengruppen) was a Danish resistance group during World War II. Its name stems from an inn called Hvidsten Kro between Randers and Mariager in Jutland where it was formed. D-Day - Point du Hoc

D-Day - Point du Hoc

This Batterie which overlooked both the Omaha and Utah landing beaches was equipped with six 155 mm type K418 guns. These guns would have had a range of approximately 22 kms and could have inflicted damage to the Allied ships at both the American landing beaches.
Only two of the Casemates were finished by D-day, but the guns not installed..
