This is a discussion thread for the following file:<br><br><b><a href=http://www.gearthhacks.com/dlfile25721/Black-Rectangle,-England.htm>Black Rectangle, England</a></b><br><br>I honestly don't see the purpose of this censoring. What's hidden here anyways?<br><br><img src=http://www.gearthhacks.com/images/new/080505/618840rectangel.jpg>

What makes you think it's censorship and not just a glitch or missing data? There is nothing there at all except some houses and fields. I'd say 'glitch' before censorship, myself.

To see the area in MSN's Local Live click here (http://local.live.com/default.aspx?v=2&cp=51.701768~-0.962591&style=h&lvl=14&tilt=-90&dir=0&alt=-1000&encType=1)

You're right..it was a rather rash jump to a conclusion. (especially since I've seen the black spot in Greenland, which I'm pretty sure isn't censoring) But in my defense, I have no idea how the imaging works...so I concluded a form of censorship, not a glitch, especially since it happens to be a rectangle, not some irregular polygon. To clear things up... how do these black spots show up when they make the imagery?

Well, in my educated opinion, I think the pixel fairies fall asleep!

Ok, uh, so maybe it's not such an educated opinion. :)

I think we'd have to know what they do to create the layers and how it all fits together to really know the answer. There might be some sort of vague explanation on the GEC, but I've never tried to find one.

the pixel fairies fell asleep!

LOLOLOLOLOL - that is a great line. We seem to have too many glitches as clients upload their images to us, I hope you don't mind if I quote you often.

Feel free to quote. :)

If anyone expresses doubt, just ask them: Where do you think the name 'pixel' came from? It's classified: pixie - electronic

You are right. Some one at Google has misunderstood the size of a pixel. :D

Actually this has been censored.
In the area under here is "Chequers" — the official country residence of British Prime Ministers.

I stand corrected, some one has just told me Chequers is more to the East.

No you are very wrong. Chequers Court is approximately 8 miles to the north east of the black rectangle.

By the way, welcome to GEH. :)

I think in that zone there is a nuclear power central because there is a photo to the left (http://www.panoramio.com/photo/453941) where you can see the installation.
