I remember my former neighbour, who was a sales agent for a major danish company in the Arab countries, once told me to get the drivers licence in Saudi Arabia you had to drive 100 meters forward, backwards 20 meters or so and finally park your car. If that works you get your drivers licence.

But of cause I don't know if the story is true but if you see this it might be.

Maybe that's why this happened in Baghdad too. :D

Getting my driver's license in America was pretty much a joke too. The test itself required me to drive forward, stop at a stop sign, take a right turn, back up 50 feet, turn around, and go back to the start. But I guess the rules and the consequences for breaking them are much stricter here.

Plus, my permit test was even more of a joke. Had a question that basically went along the lines of, "What color is a stop sign?"

I heard the other day on TV about getting a drivers licence in Austria.

When you had got it you have 2-4 and 6-12 month to practice on your own, then you go to a driving test. It's called Perfektionsfahren (perfection driving).
Then after 3-9 month you go to a drivers security training. If you pass both you keep your licence forever.

If not you keep on practise and tests.

All this is called Mehrphasenausbildung (more phases education).

Not bad if you see how some drive when they have got their licence. :hair:

If you want to find the exact opposite of this photo, go and have a look at the "traffic" in Pyongyang, North Korea.

12 Lane highways with just one or two cars on them. It's creepy that such a massive city has no traffic at all!!
