It's getting time to redesign the main site. I'd like to keep the logo and the general organization of pages the same, but give it a fresh look.

If any of you enjoy designing sites, post an image in this thread of what you think the main GEH pages should look like.

Is this just the main page, or all the pages that aren't the forum?

If it's just the main page then I'll get working on a design.

If you are not logged in, it is in the upper right hand corner.

Yes, I'm referring to the main page.

I've started making a few changes to the design (all navigation at the top, only two columns, etc), but I'm still looking for a better long-term solution.

This move is primarily to get proper breadcrumbs on all of the pages, which will help both users and SEO.

Sure.

This also raises the issue that we could use a better skin for the forum, which I agree with completely. However, that'll have to wait until we do the main site first.

Hey there,
I've got a spontaneous suggestion when I saw the new main page.

How about a better alignment of the elements?
At the moment they have all different heights and alignments. It looks in my opinion a little disordered and makes it hard to orient at first view.

Here an example pic with the different elements just to show what I mean:

Wow that's some cool new design.

I like that minimalist functional thing with a few graphic elements. Looks pretty noble and reliable. Great colour choice. Everything matches together.

Only the GEBlog square banner doesn't fit that much ;)

The new look is definitely more polished, yup. I like how clean it is, and though I had a moment of mild 'everything has moved!' confusion, it of course rapidly went away. Things are fairly well laid out so that they ARE easy to find.
