I am aware that it guarded ancient China from Mongolia, but am unaware of its exact location - any help would be appreciated.

Yes, it protected China from more than the Mongols, and yes it spans the majority of the northern reaches of the country, but a GE view would be nice.

It's difficult to see on Google Earth, due to it's width. Despite being SO long, it's really no wider than a two lane road. Anyhow, here's the best we've gotten so far:

Hope that helps.

I posted a kmz with another possible location of the Great Wall on the "Where's Waldo?" (cute) thread. Take a look at my posting there, please, and let me know what you think. I'd like to know if I "got" it. (Any way around, it's a nice view of SOMETHING interesting.) The location is around 50+miles NE of Beijing. I tracked it down via some tourist maps.

This is a satellite image of the Chinese Wall - in the Province Shanxi.
Just look here: http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shanxi
Once I found it in Google Earth, but I did not make a bookmark. But you can see it in GE.
