First, watch these Boeing Crosswind Landing certification tests for the 777 and 747 - http://www.metacafe.com/watch/39256/crosswinds/

Those certification tests were done in 50 knot crosswinds. FAA regulations limit crosswind landings to (I think) 40 knots for Boeing aircraft, and 35 knots for Airbus aircraft. (Boeing planes have main landing assemblies that rotate a tad if needed, Airbus doesn't.)

On March 1, 2008, a Lufthansa Airbus A320 was landing in Hamburg, Germany. About 20 feet above the ground, a gust took the crosswind speed to an estimated SEVENTY knots.

A plane can't land in 70 knot crosswinds. But a plane on final just a few feet above the runway can't really not land either.

Watch the video - amazing pilot skills. (As one pundit wrote - "Nothing really wrong with the landing ... they used every inch of the runway; plus a bit of meadow, fence, road, and beach.").

Here's the A320's landing -

I'm wondering what they had in the junk pile that blew up.

This link is for people who light grill/barbeque fires as usual, but then pour liquid oxygen on it. The extra oxygen causes the charcoal to get hot enough to be instantly ready for cooking. No waiting! Just .. be sure you know what you're doing!

Awesome! Those are some big waves, and I'd be scared to be in those lighthouses.. How likely though is it for the lighthouse to actually break? I'm sure its based on the lighthouse and how well its built, but has a (modern) lighthouse ever been broken by a huge wave?

La Jument. I remember those pictures. Nice to know what its called.

Cruiseship stuck in Rough Sea:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0JW_kKP7alw

This happened on feb. 14. 2005 in the Mediterranian Sea on a trip between Tunis (Tunisia) and Barcelona. The ship is the M/S Voyager, today Grand Voyager.

Windows on the bridge crashed by the waves and all electronic and engine stopped. SOS was sent. On board were 732 passengers.

That must have been scary inside the boat, it was at some pretty steep angles at some points.. I've been on a high speed turbofoil (crossing to Capri from Mainland Italy) when the boat was hit by a strong wind gust and went to almost 90 degrees, Scariest moment in my life..

I don't think it's a common thing, even with waves like that. I was reading up on some of this and the story of the Eddystone Lighthouse involves storm damage to some of the lighthouses that have stood there. (according to information, they're on #4, but this one has been up for more than a century. Although I've never seen a story about a modern, active lighthouse giving in to the waves, I don't think I can say it never happened. :)

Today I had my brother for a visit, He drives forklifts so I showed it to him. He thinks it's fake. If all is build up correct they should easily stand if a forklift hits the pellet storeys. In fact the boxes looks empty too.

I agree that many of the boxes seems quite "airy" maybe empty when they fall, if being bottles of Cognac.
