This is a discussion thread for the following file:

Military Ceremony

Everything is set up for a ceremony on Halsey Field at the North Island NAS in San Diego. Two helicopters, a red carpet, platform, and of course chairs for the audience. I can't find any information on what was going to be happening or what did happen here.

I found this article. May it's that:

Sadly no, the MH-60 has been in service longer than the start of this year. If you go to the second page the article was written in February, 2002. It's a good try though! Most of what I kept finding in the search were speeches on that day on other bases or speeches there but in the wrong year. :(

The way it's set up is for a small local ceremony of some sort, a change of command or an awards ceremony perhaps. See the amount of space between the platform and the chairs? That's your key indicator as that's where the military personnel attending will draw up in formation.

You won't find any record of that kind of ceremony outside of the base newspaper or maybe the local paper's military column.

I stood in formation enough times when I was in the Navy... :)

Thanks for the insight. :) I was looking at the base web page and couldn't find any references to it. The base newspaper is online. I didn't see anything, but it might not have warranted photographs so I could have easily missed a small article.

Could this be the disestablish ceremony of Helicopter Combat Support Special Squadron Five in May 2006?

The date Google gives that image is Jan 29, 2008.
