I am trying to get a rough idea of the elevation of an area in England. I have done this before but now it says 0m wherever I am (including the grand canyon!!) What has happened??
I do have Terrain layer checked. Have uploaded the latest version today and still no joy.

Grateful for any help.

Well, you did predict the first thing I would've suggested, namely looking at the terrain layer box. I'm stumped, but I'll throw out a couple of possibilities.

Although I seriously doubt this is the issue, but are you zoomed in enough to actually see the 'elev' label, and it's always just zero? If you don't see it at all, you're just zoomed out too far. I'm assuming that you're seeing it, though, and it's just 'zero'.

Does GE still load imagery? Did you lose your connection to the database? I think the only other thing I could think of to do is to restart GE, which is also probably something you've tried.

Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

Thank you!

Munden I did try all those you suggested. Its really wierd, I don't think it's me being silly - not this time!! It could be loss of connection to data base as some of the areas I tried remained blury I thought it might just be slow to load at that time. How can I check if its loading properly?

KML is new to me but i will have a go...look out for more questions tho!

Well that was easy but unfortunately the KML's suggested just don't do the job.

The curser just doesn't register the height. :slant:
Really stuck if you lot can't help.

Check your elevation exaggeration:

Tools > Options

If your elevation exaggeration (under the 'Terrain Quality' slider) is set to '0', your elevation reading will always be '0'.

Thanks tpstigers!!! That is sorted now. Not sure how or why but it works which is the main thing.
