has anybody an idea where the location is where the second "teleport-machine" has been in the movie "contact"?
i remember that it said "a japanese island" but i cant find it.
so, if you know where, i would be pleased..
Unfortunately it was all fiction / sci-fi, and it was all filmed in-studio & with special effects, so unfortunately there will be nothing special to see on the island once you get there.. but I'll try my luck at finding it for you, anyway :)

The location for the japanese part of the film is in the Gros Morne National Park, Newfoundland.

Is a high-res image of the radio dish at Arecibo, or the VLA in New Mexico. I looked where I thought they were supposed to be bu those are low-res location.
Lee; did you try searching our file archive (http://www.googleearthhacks.com/downloads/advancedsearch.php)
If you had, you would have found;
Arecibo Observatory, Puerto Rico (Overlay) (http://www.googleearthhacks.com/dlfile8961/Arecibo-Observatory,-Puerto-Rico-(Overlay).htm) and VLA - Very Large Array (Overlay) (http://www.googleearthhacks.com/dlfile172/VLA---Very-Large-Array.htm) and lots of other cool things.. :)

Nope, I'm still finding my way around here. Thanks.
I did find Arecibo and the VLA on my own, but without overlays there's not a lot of detail directly available from GE.
Good to hear; the two files I linked you to are overlays offering a higher resolution than the standard GE one, so I hope they were helpful :)

Arecibo Observatory, Puerto Rico (Overlay) (http://www.googleearthhacks.com/dlfile8961/Arecibo-Observatory,-Puerto-Rico-(Overlay).htm) Take a look at it now - with the new GEarth image update ( http://www.googleearthhacks.com/forums/showthread.php?t=7162 ) the satellite image is as good as the overlay!

Try viewing it with Terrain turned on then tilt it. Looks like they got the height data wrong, looks more like a dome than a concave dish.
