The architecural style was popular circa 1845-1860, and is characterized by eight sides and, often, a cupola on the roof, such as on the Elderkin House. This residence is regarded as &quot;...among the best surviving examples of the style...&quot; and achieved recognition on the National Register of Historic Places in 1974.<br /><br /><img src=http://www.gearthhacks.com/showimage.php?image=112807/1411971.jpg>
