I found this StreetView bicycle on a german Google site.

I only thaught Google used cars but they also use bicybles for smaller roads where a car can't drive.

Would be interesting to find one in a window, mirror or caught by another StreetView vehicle.

That explains a few images I've seen in car-impossible, narrow alleys. Since the base of the image where the camera transport is is usually blurred out, as you mentioned, it's best to look at mirrors, shiny surfaces, etc.

You mentioned they use them in Germany, any other idea where they've been used?

My guess is in those alleys in the center of Amsterdam and Rotterdam. Maybe also in some cities in the UK.

When Germany comes on with StreetView it would be medieval cities like Lubeck or so. We have to wait and see.

Found another (http://www.gearthhacks.com/streetview/file.php?fileid=5421). Just look at the helmet of the "driver" and look at the shadow on the ground. Also, if you back up two spaces, the "vehicle" is clearly in a bike lane..the pavement is marked "BIKE".
