This is a discussion thread for the following file:

Blue Star Train in Augsburg

The Blue Star Train is a remodeled 1950s express train and used to be a symbol of progress, velocity, and luxury. Jürgen Drexler lovingly altered the train’s interior to create a temporary gourmet restaurant on wheels. Friday through Sunday, one can dine in various elegant cabins called Blue Star Lounge, Red Saloon, and Blue Saloon. All dishes are served on fine porcelain in accordance with the cabins’ exquisite interior design. On offer are a three-course menu (€ 35) up to a six-course menu (€ 59).

This train brings memories for us here in Denmark with this train.

1963 to 66 it was introduced to the danish railways DSB. It drove until 1990 and most of the trains were given to Poland in 1991. They were scrapped 1994.

Originally they were red but 1984 they were renewed and painted silver. Then they got the nickname "Sølvpilen", the silver arrow, because of the speed, 120-140 km/h and that was fast for us. Ironically the trains today still drive with that speed.

Besides the nickname Sølvpilen it also had names for the route it was on. Here are some:

Fynboen - Copenhagen-Aarhus

Gudenåen - Copenhagen-Skanderborg-Herning

Kongeåen - Copenhagen-Kolding-Sonderborg /-Esbjerg-Struer

Lillebælt - Copenhagen-Frederikshavn

Today one of the trains are at the Danish Railway Museum in Odense where it now and then is one of the trains you can take a short trip with.
