While everybody would like to get a closer look to the Earth using Google Earth I on the other hand would like to be able to push the Earth further away so I would be able to see satellite orbit paths. Does anybody know if there is an .ini setting that would limit this level of zooming?

Your answer would be much appreciated...

Peter

You can push the earth pretty far away. I think one of our files here at GEH is a kmz that shows satellite positions. A bit embarrassing, I can't find ours, but I found this - http://adn.agi.com/SatelliteDatabase/SatelliteDatabase.kmz

Thanks for the quick reply, but what I am looking for is to change the "eye altitude" to over 40000 mi. That is the present Max height that Google Earth allows. I hope this number is not hard coded in rather have a setup file where I could change it...

Thanks for the link BTW

It appears to be hard coded. When I manually tried to force a view from 100,000,000 meters it topped out at a viewing distance of 39,589 miles away.

Seems that way, I've been told by my co-worker that the earlier versions allowed higher Eye altitudes. Bummer I might have to downgrade Arrgggh

found a quick solution for my problem if you create a tour at a set altitude PLUS range you can set your eyeAltitude to pretty much anything. BUT don't use the mouse to pan or zoom it will reset itself to the MAX ~63k km/40k miles. Creating an animation with TimeSnap Begin End works at the set height in this case eyeAltitude is range+altitude = 200k km
