Wierd Ribbon at lake Baikal

Not sure what this is. Any ideas?

My first guess would be that it was a period of data loss on one of the satelite passes. The absolute straighness of it points to a non-natural origin, and the gradient to the image data at the ends looks like an image processing artifact. I'm only guessing, however.
