This overlay is a good idea, but it would be better if it was layered exactly over the GE world. That way one could see what timezones their saved placemarks are.

If I can suggest a next level time zone map:
If it was possible for somone to come up with a map that also showed an actual sunrise and sunset region this would be great too.

I have ideas on how it would work, but I do not have the skill to accomplish the task.

overall, I think the timezone thing should be a default layer in GE.

Basically it could be a layer made out of square image that is half light and half dark. The thing I dont know is how to make the image shift at the rate that the sun moves around the globe. I would need to run some kind of script on a server that would keep changing the image file every few minutes.

Scripts and server availability my problem.

attached is a KMZ file that shows the basic layer.
