After a bit of hacking around today I managed to shift the existing Google API/blogs mashup (http://www.blogwise.com/blogmaps) from Blogwise (http://www.blogwise.com/) into Google Earth (kml - open in Earth (http://www.blogwise.com/maps/earth.kml))
It seems to work fairly well - the data is accurate and 150 blogs at a time coming in over broadband is fairly painless. The formatting and text rendering, particularly in dense areas, is a bit untidy but presumably I can format the text or otherwise just shorten the name tag in the KML?
Your thoughts and comments would be very much appreciated.
Cheers,
Sven
