Is there an API for extending google earth beyond KML? Specifically I want to be able to click and drag icons, then when dropped i want to send the coordinates to a web service URL. Can this be done in C++/Java/whatever?

Not that I'm aware of, but it's very possible that someone else knows a trick that I don't yet know...

That would be extremely helpful ... I am trying to accomplish the same thing. The only way to get the placemark information out of Google Earth (that I know of) is to save the file to disk and then manually process that file. It would be very useful if we can find out a way to export placemark data to a webservice ...

Have you been able to solve this problem

Thanks,
Phil

You can connect to google earth via a COM object . This doesn't allow access to placemark info. But it does allow you to get and set viewdata.
