I'm very new to Google Earth, but like it a lot, see a lot of potential, and picking it all up one way or another.

I see the announcements on new maps being loaded. How do I pick these up? Do I do like a re-install of Google Earth or what?

One shortcoming I noticed was searching for locations; especially small towns. If it isn't "on the beaten path", all I get is a bunch of ads for unrelated things like hotels 200 miles away. I have learned that if I input the latitude and longitude, I can then find what I want. I experimented with all kinds of ways of determining what the latitude and longitude are for out-of-the-way places, and finally found a USGS program on about.com:

Kinlock, google earth accesses its data remotely off a server at Google HQ, so you dont need to do anything in order to see the new data, the next time you zoom in on that location it will just be there! :)

Enjoy!

Dear Ara

As a newbie myself I had the same questions and the recent new releases from GE do confuse. They are on the one hand updates of data - and these are GE-stuff and they are on the other hand update of programme and this is so to say our stuff and we will have to update our local programme - if we want the new features etc.

In the last couple of days we have seen both types of updates.

Just trying for reasons of clarification ;)
