Fairford can be an extremely busy air base, with regular visits by USAF aircraft. In 2003 it was the UK base for fourteen B52s during Operation Iraqi Freedom and in 2004 the RAF Mildenhall KC135 tanker fleet was redeployed here during runway reconstruction.
