How about the ability to stop an army when it is moving across the globe? This way we could start an army toward a destination and for whatever reason stop it before it gets there without having to redirect it or return it. It would just stop and sit to wait for its next orders. You could put the "Stop" option on the armies detail page. Then when viewing your armies it could have something like "Near ..." (whatever the closest city is) in the Current City column. Dont know how much extra it would take to store the coordinates for where it is stopped, or display it in GE, but I think this would be a nice added feature. It would make taking and holding cities even more strategic...

Actually, that should work pretty well within the current back-end stuff that I've written. I want to wait at least a few days to do it, as I've still got a few bugs I want to fix first, but I'll put it on the to-do list.

Excellent! Thanks...

it would also make the armies invulnerable?

Actually, Mickey shrewdly made this possible already. You need only send the army back and forth between its original starting point and destination every couple minutes, and it will stand still.

What's REALLY interesting is the ability to send an army to a destination by "tacking" across a region by going zigzag between two destinations on either side of the actual intended target.

You can presently go to almost any point on the globe you want, if you're willing to bounce your armies between constantly updated sets of orders. No commander in his right mind would HEED such orders, of course . . . .

True, but I think a real "stop" command would be nice. However, it would also mean that those armies could be attacked, which is a separate issue.

Also, this leads to a great way to sneak armies over to an opposing city without them knowing that you're on the way.

Yeah, but it'd be easier with a certain kind of navigation in play. ;-)

Hoping you'd implement this simple, no-brainer-to-code feature ;-) I had anticipate attempting the ultimate "ambush" move, wherein I'd first pre-position armies at several particular cities (not occupying, just there), then have them depart for other specific cities at carefully calculated dates and times. Their paths would take them known distances from my target, and at predetermined times I'd re-point them to the target -- certainly while each army was less than 30 minutes away from the target.

It would really be easy to set up. Actually, it might be easier to set up in a spreadsheet with your current navigation system, but I was concerned with the visuals in GE -- which, after all, translate into good navigation on the planet. Alas, this shall await another day.

rasqual you're right, but this is very time consuming.

with a stop button everyone could do it, you'd have armies everywhere sitting 5 minutes of towns, which we cant attack. id be madness!

maaaadddneeesss i say!
