Hello fellow gewarers,
I would like some debate on the feature of being able to merge armies. Currently, armies are worth a set figure for administrative purposes and then an amount per troop. I believe one should have the ability to merge armies to save on this extra expense in deemed necessary by the supreme commander (ehm, you). Also therefore another good feature would be to split an army up again into two or several as the needs fit again.
A few examples of application;
1. Split a defending army into a small expeditionary force to scout a camped army.
2. Send one large army to an area and split to attack several cities, for instance - send over 10,000 troops to europe and split into 10 1000 troop armies to pepper a few cities. My bet is some would be under-defended (especially after the reset), and you could snap a few up. But if you attack one city and find yourself up against a prepared army, it's gone.
3. Send and attack with one army but then leave a defensive force and move on.
Thoughts?

I'm definitely in favor of merging and splitting armies. I posted about it forever ago and planned to keep bringing it up periodically. The only real issue will be when Mickey implements the feature whereby armies can gain experience.
I actually think this is a really good idea, it allows also for armies who come home from battle a little.. wounded.. to be merged into bigger armies..
Before the reset I had two 20-soldier-armies I would have loved to have combined to have a scout army - I didnt want to buy another 100 troops for them.. they were not that important
Great idea :) I just dont know if there will be any cheating made easier with it, and I dont know just how hard it'll be for our benevolent overlord (Mickey) and his right-hand-GEman (Beezer) to add in :)

I had a 31 that I sent around a bunch, but they just wouldn't die :)
That also reminds me -- smaller armies need to travel faster. It's real world and I think the game needs it.
By the way blitz, I like your use of letterhead for this thread. From the desk of blitzkrieg indeed :)

I like the ideas. There will be a few technical hurdles, but the biggest is probably what birq said about armies can gaining experience. I think I'd like to add that first, and then maybe look at merging/splitting.
WOW! theres going to be a GE revolution!
I really like the ideas Mickey :) look forward to twiddling with them :D

this thread http://www.googleearthhacks.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2513 had some interesting variations to address that experience issue.
2. That's the toughy, if I get a levelled up "elite" army with 100 troops left after a BIG fight, then fill it up to say 10,000 troops, the elite 100 are only 1% of the army's size.... Maybe the army can get an "experience score" which would be diluted by adding more green troops. Although the elite forces would provide an inspiration to the recruits so the effect shouldn't be proprotionate to the added troops. i.e. 5000 troops at 100 exp points get 5000 recruits - exp points for the army drop to 75 instead of 50 by the dilution of the veterans (assumes good leadership).
Mmmmm, that's a really good point blitzkriegmj, and so handsome aswell.
experience is all numbers in this game, move things around and you'll dilute the numbers... I'll think more on this overnight, sweet dreams GEWar.

looking forward to split armies (and you have to think a little bit more about your armies :spin: ) ...
