View Full Version : Taiwan Airbase but no Planes

This is a large airbase in Taiwan.

But no planes.

Now I read some where that they have tunnelled into the mountains for hangers.

Do you think these taxiways lead underground?

If you zoom out you will see this base is connected to another base to the east.

A few planes on the ground there.

Compare this with the number at this base.

Also just for interest, another base with two fighters taking off.

Interesting finding there. I agree to you theory that they have the planes parked in the mountains because you can see very well that there are roads leading in to the mountains from where fighters possibly could reach the airfield.

correction on your last file, you'll have to title that taiwanese fighters taking off.

The base in Hualian does indeed have underground hangers, or rather dug into the mountain side. Hualian is where a great majority of F-16 are based in.

The Mirages are largely based at Hsinchu.

Now, not sure if you noticed, but all the taiwanese air force bases have reinforced hangers or protected open air tarmacs. If you look carefully at the one in Taichung, the one with the golf course to the north, you will see the sheltered tarmacs to the east of the large tarmac.
This is true with the one where you had fighters taking off, notice the earth covered hangers. This is, of course, due to the constant threat from China.

Also, just to give you all more examples of shelters:
2334'12.26"N 11937'54.32"E

This is one of the more forward island bases between Taiwan and China. Notice the little stubs coming out of the north end of the run way: same idea, sheltered tarmacs.
