Hi people
I'm using the GE quite a lot and I'm very impressed with it. I have some issues about the low resolution in many areas of Australia, where I live and work , but I've read the explanations given previously in this forum about this issue, so lets hope that GE will get better resolution in the very near future.
In the mean time, I'm confused about the layers adding feacture, and my question is, where and how did some guys got the layer that they used to enhance areas they shared with all of us is this site?
I've been trough a few examples (from people sharing) where the GE image of some areas is very poor, and then this layer (filter) is overlayed on the original frame and the image become identical to the GE areas with High resolution. How is this done???
Any help with this matter would be appreciated.
Thanks
Hi! :) welcome to GEH!
Ok firstly, what you are talking about are overlays - not layers, layers are the Google Supplied data layers, like roads, buildings and terrain :)
Overlays can be made quite simply, first you find the image you want by doing a Google Image Search (images.google.com/) for "<your city> aerial photo" or "<your city> Satellite photo" Then you open google earth, go to the "add" menu and select "image overlay", you put the image URL in there & use the corners around the image to line it up using water features and other distinct map characteristics as your guidance (Read this thread for more info (http://www.googleearthhacks.com/forums/showthread.php?t=4133)) And voila :)
Hope this helps!

Hi araT
Thanks for your prompt response and I'm pleased to know you're an aussie from Sydney, with no offence to anyone not leaving here!!
I've seen hundreds of your responses troughout GEH, and you certainly know about this stuff.
I am very disapointed that most of the areas where I work (Feral Animal Control Officer) 100 km radious from Longreach - QLD are low resolution. I've mapped all my working areas with GPS and mapping software (mapinfo, arcview, arvmap, oziexplorer, gis, topos, etc, etc, etc.), but I never could afford the thousands of dollars (approx. $5.000) needed to get vetor image satelite sofware which is very much like the new GE with all the extras. So in reality, I'm excited and pleased with GE giveing us the opportunity to experience such images for free. I really need to get that area with at least the type of high resolution GE is providing to some areas. I haven't manage so far to get any satelite images with a decent zoom capabilities for those areas. The best so far is from GE, but I need to see those trees, fences, dams, etc, etc clearly.
So, if you can help me further with this issue, I would be most thankfull.
Regards
Sorry, theres really nothing I can do for you - we dont control the data, Google does - they just did a big imagery update so the next one will be a month away, maybe your luck will come up then :)
So, I presume you have GE Plus so you can use GPS with it?
The only thing I can recommend is to rent a plane & fly over with a camera, hehe
Where's the area? I'll try my luck finding some high-res goodnes for you :)

Thanks araT
I understand what you say, so lets hope they (GE) give us some better resolution soon!
I'm using the GE normal, I want to upgrade to plus soon.
Would be good if you could find something for me, the area is Longreach in Outback Queensland. The base is Longreach and the area is approx 100 to 150 km radious from it. I've got nearly 900 waypoints from that area, so I give you the lat-long from the home base in Longreach.
Latitude -23 26 25.5 Longitude 144 14 38.2
Thanks
