I'm sure somebody has mentioned this, but has anyone taken a good long look at 0,0? Here's the file (my placemark is a little off, so the point is visible)

Now try these layer panels:
Major Retail
Fires/Hospitals
Schools
Churches/Cemeteries
Airports/Transportation
(Now, being 0,0 is in the middle of the ocean, none of these should appear, right?)
0,0 also happens to be right on the "F" of Golfo De Fonesca, as you will see if you zoom out to 15,000 feet (Once again, as it is a little off, the placemark itself will not be directly on the "F", but 0,0 is).

Any thoughts?

On the Airports/Transportation bit, the other day I got Stephenson Airport and Essex Airport (historical), earlier I just got Stephenson Airport, and now I'm getting Stephenson Airport and Bristol Airport (historical).

An easter egg is the general term for a hidden item, message, etc. usually put there intentionally. In this case, I think it's just a bunch of placemarks that don't have correct coordinates and GE is reading them as 0,0.

Surely 0,0 is Zero Latitude & Zero Longdtude ? Where the Grenwich meridian crosses the Equator ?

Ahh, I have just re read the original post, then went back & turned on all the layers and I now see what you are on about, I had 2 information bars, Essex Airport & other items all at this point :whoa:

This placemark is exactly at the center of the Earth. It is easiest to find at around 90ft altitude. The coordinates are:
0°00'00.00", 0°00'00.00

Sorry for being picky but the center of a sphere is definetely not on its surface, it's in the middle of the sphere.
That position is just the point on earth, where the Greewich meridian (which is determined by human beings) meets the equator...

Hey, a couple of questions. I am writing an article about Google Earth and just discovered Google Earth Hacks. 1) Some of the images look a few years old--am I right about that? 2) What's the appeal of Google Earth Hacks? Do you guys play games and stuff? 3) Is it possible to embed an image on Google Earth? -- Very best, Xanthura

Good Morning xanthura!

1) Some of the images look a few years old--am I right about that? Yes, that is explained here - http://www.googleearthhacks.com/forums/showthread.php?t=3225

2) What's the appeal of Google Earth Hacks? Do you guys play games and stuff? It is a fun community with some great people who share a love of GEarth. There was a game on GEH - Google Earth War - that took on a life of its own and now has its own website - http://www.gewar.net/index.html - a lot of the regulars on GEH were there only for GEWar and they have left us to play their war games.

Part of the appeal is the fact that so many people from all over the world are members of GEH. A bunch from Germany. Many from the Middle East.

3) Is it possible to embed an image on Google Earth?Very possible - imbedded images are known as overlays and are part of the kmz file. The images can be static or dynamic. During Katrina we had a file that showed a real time satellite image of the gulf. I will try to find a good static and a good dynamic overlay for you.

Feel free to ask any more questions.
